During your Skin Cancer Check Consultation, which usually lasts for about 15-20 minutes, Dr Gabriel Poboran will carefully examine any lesions you are concerned about and perform a full body skin check using digital HD MoleMax Dermoscopy System.
This system enables your doctor to examine the skin using polarized light and magnification to detect changes to skin not visible to the naked eye.
If atypical lesions are detected during the initial skin check, dermoscopic images of the lesions are digitally captured and stored in the Mole Max HD system for the 3 – 4 months comparison and follow up appointment.
If any suspicious lesion is detected during the skin check, Dr Gabriel Poboran will usually recommend skin biopsy for histopathological confirmation on the nature of the lesion. The biopsy can be excisional biopsy which means removal of the whole lesion or partial biopsy which can be a shaved or a punch biopsy.
Different cancers will require different methods of biopsy. Biopsy procedures will usually be performed at another appointment time as they might require 15 to 30 minutes. Biopsy procedure might attract a gap payment.
If no suspicious lesions are detected during the initial skin check your follow up appointment timeframe will be discussed as well as skin cancer prevention measures.
During the initial consultation, minor procedures like Cryotherapy or Diathermy can be also performed. A management plan for your particular skin lesions/skin cancer will be discussed.
The choice of treatment will depend on the skin cancer type detected.
Depending on your age, type of skin, sun exposure and number of skin lesions we recommend at least a yearly skin check.
Please avoid wearing makeup and having a nail polish when attending the skin cancer consultation. As the face is one of the most common sites for skin cancer, it is essential that no make-up is worn. Nail polish can hide pigmented lesions that grow under nails, so should be avoided as well.
