Dr Poboran has been practising medicine since 1986, building a career that has taken him through emergency medicine and general practice in Romania, South Africa and Australia. Along the way he spent two years, in 2002 and 2003, lecturing in emergency medicine at the University of Queensland — an academic thread that would later pull him toward a more specialised path.
In 2004, Dr Poboran shifted his focus to skin cancer medicine, a decision shaped by Australia's uniquely high skin cancer rates and the real difference early detection can make. That focus deepened over the following years: in 2008 he was presented with the MoleScan Award for his work in skin cancer detection, and in 2009 he completed a Certificate in Advanced Clinical Dermoscopy through the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand. In 2010, he went on to complete a Masters degree in Skin Cancer Medicine at the University of Queensland, cementing skin cancer medicine as the core of his practice.
