Intense pulse light (IPL) medical aesthetics clinic
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology is used to improve the appearance of damaged and ageing skin and for skin rejuvenation in general, called photorejuvenation. Due to IPL ability to produce the bunch of lights of different wavelength it can reach different targets in the skin at the same time to simultaneously treat different skin conditions.
Intense Pulse Light produces good results in smoothing the skin texture, reducing the fine lines and wrinkles, treating benign pigmented lesions and sun spots, removing unwanted blood vessels, capillaries, face redness and reduce unwanted hair growth.
The heat generated by IPL is able to trigger controlled skin injury, remodelling collagen in the dermis.
The Procedure
At OzSkinScan we use medical grade IPL, from BIOS Lasers, Italy. It is equipped with the cooling handpiece, therefore reducing the risk of skin damage due to heat application, improving the efficiency of light delivery in the deeper dermis and providing comfort for the patient. You may feel some slight discomfort with a warm sensation which usually disappears soon after the treatment ends. The session duration vary between 10 and 30 minutes. Recovery is fast and you can return to your normal activities straight after the treatment. Side effects such as redness and itching subside within 24 hours, while mild swelling may take longer, up to 10 days to disappear.
Pigment changes may occur with the treated area becoming lighter or darker but this will get settled within 14 days, and the newer skin will be revealed.
What Results to Expect
Most pigmented lesions can achieve complete removal after an adequate number of sessions. Some small lesions (such as freckles or age spots) may take a single treatment to remove – other can take multiple treatments, depending on a variety of factors.Treated blood vessels usually disappear immediately, but they have the ability to re-appear, therefore a set of treatments is a preferred option to deal with capillaries. On average, three to six sessions are required to achieve the desired outcome. We recommend to do IPL Treatments during winter, autumn and early spring months to reduce the risk of hypo-pigmentation.
How to Prepare for your Treatment Day
- Avoid excessive sun exposure for approximately one to two weeks prior to your treatment. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to protect your skin. If you are spray-tanned, please exfoliate to help remove the tanning product in the treatment area.
- If you have a history of cold sores, be sure that the doctor is notified in advance of scheduling your treatment. The doctor will prescribe an oral anti-viral medication for you prior to your treatment.
- Stop applying any “irritating” skin products at least one day prior to treatment.
- If the doctor has written any prescriptions for medications to be used after your laser treatment, have these filled by your pharmacist and available the day of your treatment.
- Arrive on time for your laser treatment with clean skin, we will advise you on the amount of time you need to allow for your treatment session to be relaxed and comfortable. Female patients should not wear any makeup/mascara, lotions, powders or perfumes on or around the areas being treated. Male patients can shave the morning of their treatment but should not apply lotions or aftershave on or around the areas being treated.
- Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and shoes.
